At Small Miracles Animal Hospital, Dr. Jacquelyn Chorba has become an integral part of many pet families' lives. With a journey in veterinary medicine marked by compassion, client education, and a love for animals, Dr. Chorba’s work goes beyond treatment—she’s focused on building relationships that help families better understand and care for their pets.
Originally from North Olmsted, Ohio, Dr. Chorba now calls Strongsville home, where she lives with Maisy, her 11-year-old rescue cat. After earning her undergraduate degree in Biology with Summa Cum Laude honors from Bowling Green in 2008, she completed her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine at The Ohio State University in 2012.
Starting out in a mixed animal practice in Fremont, Ohio, she gained valuable experience with both large and small animals. Later, she joined a small animal clinic in Parma, where she met Dr. Arnold, who has become her colleague and mentor. Their shared philosophy of compassionate, client-centered care allows them to bring exceptional veterinary care to the community.
Beyond her expertise, Dr. Chorba’s friendly, relatable style of veterinary care fosters a welcoming environment that puts pet owners at ease. She goes the extra mile to educate families on preventative care, understanding their pets’ needs, and the best ways to support their pets’ health.
Here, she shares her thoughts on her career, personal interests, and her top tips for pet care.
Q: If you could have any animal as a pet (real or mythical), what would it be and why?
A: I have always loved elephants and would love to be part of an elephant rescue or sanctuary someday!
Q: What's your favorite part of your job and why?
A: Building relationships with my pet parents and families, and being able to explain medicine in a way that families can understand so they can better take care of and bond with their pets.
Q: What’s one thing you wish every pet owner knew about taking care of their pet?
A: Pet insurance can greatly help out with all kinds of unexpected illnesses and accidents, but it has to be purchased prior to any concerning issues, or they won’t be covered!
Q: What is the most unusual pet you have ever treated?
A: On a veterinary trip to Thailand during vet school, I helped with sedating and examining hyenas. This included checking for any dental problems, giving injections, and sexing them, which has to be done via ultrasound. Hyenas have a unique anatomy, as females have a pseudopenis and a prescrotal sac, making it difficult to tell visually.
Q: What’s your go-to “happy song” for those busy days in the clinic?
A: Basically anything with a good beat…but secretly, I would love to just listen to the Hamilton soundtrack all day long!
Q: Can you share a simple but effective pet care tip that most people might not know?
A: Get your pets used to things (like muzzles, crates, and even medication training) before they ever show signs that they could need them! You never know when these could come in handy.
Dr. Chorba’s dedication to both her patients and their families is evident in every interaction. Whether she's educating a client, caring for an animal, or enjoying the Hamilton soundtrack, she brings heart, knowledge, and warmth to everything she does at Small Miracles Animal Hospital.
